He was a Battery Sergeant Major (BSM) in the Royal Field Artillery and 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery 28th Brigade. He entered the theatre of war in France in 1917. He was killed in action on 1 Nov 1918. He was awarded the Victory Medal, the British War Medal, the Territorial Force War Medal and mentioned in despatches (MID) emblems.
